What Is Woodworm?

Woodworm isn’t actually a worm at all! The term woodworm is used to classify the larvae of several species of wood-boring beetle.

In the spring and summer months, beetles from the family of metallic flat-headed borers, longhorn beetles, bark beetles and weevils lay their eggs in wood. When these eggs hatch, completely unseen inside the wood, the resulting larvae then spend their time eating through the timber until they mature into a beetle and emerge from the wood in search of a mate.

How Will We Treat Your Woodworm Problem?

We will use one of two treatment types, either fumigation or a water-based treatment depending on which is most appropriate for the type of woodworm, style & usage of the property and also the level of infestation.

• Fumigation treatment, or fogging as its often termed, involves using an oil-based liquid which is passed through a pressurised machine to produce a fine mist or micro encapsulated fog. This is ideal for treating the whole property or large buildings where there is a serious infestation. It will treat the whole fabric of the premises including floorboards, skirtings and all rooms including kitchens.
• Water-based treatment, also a liquid formulation is sprayed directly onto the affected surfaces much like a weed or pesticide killer.
